Filters
Filters in cars are essential components that are responsible for removing impurities and particles that can damage the engine, fuel, oil, air and transmission. There are different types of filters depending on their function and the material they are made of. The main filters in a car are:
- Engine air filter: ensures that the air entering the engine does not contain abrasive particles that could affect combustion and the performance of the car. It can be made of paper, foam or cotton. It is recommended to change it every year or depending on the use and the place where you drive.
- Oil filter: This filter retains small metal particles that come off as a result of normal engine wear and tear and can seriously damage the engine. It is advisable to change it every time you change the oil, which is usually every year or two years in new cars.
- Fuel filter: prevents impurities in the fuel from reaching the engine and damaging it. In petrol engines, it filters the petrol; in diesel engines, it removes the water contained in the diesel and prevents corrosion. It must be checked periodically, every time the car is taken to the garage for maintenance.
- Cabin air filter: ensures the quality of the air breathed by passengers and the driver, filtering dust, pollen, gases and other pollutants. It is important to change it every year or every 15,000 km to avoid allergies, bad odours and health problems.
- Transmission filter: protects the gearbox from impurities that can damage its components and affect the operation of the car. Its replacement depends on the type of transmission, manual or automatic, and the car manufacturer.
Filters in cars are essential to ensure a smooth and safe drive, as well as to extend the life of the car and avoid costly breakdowns. Therefore, it is essential to check and replace them according to the manufacturer's instructions and the conditions of use of the car.
